From the very beginning, there were tape recorders in my house, a microphone attached, ready to capture any moment necessary. I suppose my parents are responsible for my obsession with recording things and keeping mementos. They were recording me when I was 2 years old, and I'm now I'm rarely without a camera or microphone myself. I have a cardboard box that I keep underneath my entertainment center where I keep all my old cassettes and a bunch of wiring and cables. I dug through it and found a wide assortment of material from myself as a toddler to my own kids as .....well, kids.
After painstakingly recording and editing, I am left with some pretty good stuff. Some of the files are pretty big, and I've edited most of them as much as I could without stripping away any really interesting parts (although, that's always debatable, isn't it?), but if you play them online they shouldn't be too bad. You can also right-click each one and SAVE TARGET AS... to keep them on your own system, but then you'd be missing out on the descriptions and pictures. I tried to edit them in a way that wouldn't disrupt the continuity, if there was any to begin with. I also did as much tinkering as I could with the noise levels without deluding the true sound. But, when you're dealing with some tapes that are nearly 30 years old, only so much can be done.
