"Nick Runs!"

This could have been the first extra-busy weekend, but they cancelled Katie's competition, so all she had to do Saturday was practice. Kind of like a band camp day. Nick, on the other hand, had his first Saturday cross country meet, and it was apparently the biggest one they'll race all year. All I had to do was drop him off at the school at 10:15am, then show up at the place to watch him run at 4pm. I was able to find a really good spot next to the path, close to the finish line. There were nearly 220 kids in his race, all 7th and 8th graders from various schools. He came in 192nd or so, but it was really cool to see him run in his uniform, and see how hard he was trying. That was the best part.

We also went to the Licking Heights football game, but since it was an away game, we had to sit behind the marching band, so we didn't get to really see Katie a whole lot. But it was still impressive. It was raining again, but no thunderstorms. We left after halftime, since Katie doesn't play after that.

Golf was this morning. It was a bit adventurous. Unfortunately, dad left after 10 holes, not feeling well again. That's becoming quite a bummer. Before he left, he got to see my pitching wedge break in mid swing. I was hitting out of some tall, mangy grass, but there were no rocks or tree roots that I could see. As soon as the club made contact with the ball, the head broke off and flew several yards in front of me. It was quite interesting, left with just the shaft of the club for me to gaze stupidly at for a few seconds.

I ended up with a quadruple-bogey 9 on that hole (the ball that I hit while breaking the club went into the water). I had been playing well until then, but at that point, my expectations were very low. I ended up with another quadruple-bogey later in the round, but then had pars on three of the last five holes, and shot a 93. I pitched mostly with my 9-iron, which was kind of so-so, except on the 16th hole, when I chipped from about 30 yards to within two feet for par. My sub-90 streak of 4 is over, but considering the couple of disaster holes, I am pretty happy. Plus, I only had 31 putts, so that helped.

Then apparently, I cut my arm while I was putting my clubs away, and it must have been when I was handling the broken club. I didn't feel a thing, but when I got to my car, there was blood on my shirt. I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. I finally saw the damage when I got in my car. Of course, just like a kid, as soon as I saw it, it hurt a bit. It's not bad at all, just bled a bit.

So.....I was thinking about getting a whole new set of irons this fall anyway, because I've never bought new clubs before and need some that fit me better. Since I have to get a new pitching wedge anyway, this might be a good time. Like, today or this week. And then I'd have to make sure I get to the driving range at least once before I try to play a full round.

Oh, and this is a big part of the reason why I love playing golf as much as I do. I looked behind while we were on the third fairway, and saw this:

Sunrise

Freaking gorgeous. I lamented how this was the third week in a row I regretted not having a camera, because the sunrises have been really extra good, but this one topped them all. Luckily, dad's phone has a pretty good camera on it, so he got the shot, which is now my wallpaper. If anyone wants a bigger version of this, let me know.
